Wild by Design: Our Private Reserve From the beginning, our mission was preservation. We developed less than 5% of the Pura Vida Ecolodge Reserve, leaving the rest as a protected primary jungle corridor for over 850 animal species.

13 years ago we moved into a little wooden shack down in Coronado and over the next 9 months, we started crafting our dream of many years into a reality. We first opened our doors in November 2012 but our dreaming didn’t stop there.

Day by day, we continue to grow sustainably, improving the facilities and often life-changing experiences we offer our guests at the same time as reducing our impact on the surrounding environment. Our Retreat is a home away from home that we have nurtured from afar, a sacred space where nature enthusiasts from all over the world can reconnect and experience their very own version of peace, plants & pura vida.

We are proud to be a Certified Member of 1% for the Planet, donating 1% of our annual revenue directly to local Costa Rican environmental nonprofits working on climate and conservation issues.

Our Philosophy

When conceptualizing Pura Vida Ecolodge, our philosophy was clear. As extensive travelers, photographers, and advocates for green living, we realized it was time to create something special: a luxurious yet affordable experience that cares as much about the environment as it does about its guests. La Zona Sur of Costa Rica provided the perfect platform to make guilt-free travel in style possible.

Pura Vida Ecolodge is the realization of a dream: a private, re-wilding retreat in the tropical jungle. Our design harmonizes with the surroundings using local, natural materials. Wake to howler monkeys and toucans, all while knowing less than 5% of the reserve is used for structures. This is eco-luxury minutes from Ojochal and the world's most pristine beaches.
